Austin, TX and Los Angeles – September 1, 2009 — Motion Computing®, a leading provider of integrated mobile computing solutions and FreightTrain®, a developer of online construction management tools, were recognized with a Gold 2009 Constructech Vision Award. Presented at Constructech magazine’s 4th annual Technology Day Conference, the Vision Awards honor companies that have realized the advantages of applying innovative technologies to their everyday businesses as well as the solution providers that have helped them achieve their goal.
McCarthy Building Companies Inc. was nominated for outstanding results at the Kaiser Permanente Hospital at Downey, with FreightTrain online construction management software and Motion Tablet PCs highlighted as enabling technologies. Completed in 2008, the project was 106 days ahead of schedule and more than $47 million below budget. McCarthy, FreightTrain and Motion were recognized with the gold award in the Builder/GC Commercial Construction projects in the more than $500 million budget category.
FreightTrain is a web based software platform that enables online access, updates, and scheduling of the myriad tasks of large construction projects. The solution provides full graphical representation of construction status, and built-in, customizable project tracking and quality control. Additionally, its extensive analytics provide metrics to assess construction status, subcontractor work, and performance relative to target goals.
“We are proud to have earned recognition for our first Construction Vision Award,” said Bill Clemenson, president of Healthcare Technical Services and creator of FreightTrain. “McCarthy Building Company’s results show how FreightTrain leverages hosted technology to improve construction performance, from inspections to architectural punches to the entire quality control process.”
